From Acapulco to Halifax, baking
Margot Anahi Avalos Aguirre is originally from Acapulco, Guerrero, Mexico. Baking has been how she has made sense of most of her adult life: first as a profession, then as a small business, now as both alongside being a mother.
What she brings to every order is a professional standard and a personal one held together. The cakes she made in Nuevo León had to be right. The cookie she makes for someone's daughter's birthday has to be right in a different way, one that matters just as much. She holds both at the same time.
She works from home, which means she never leaves. The kitchen is the studio is the workspace. She has built Margot Bakes one order at a time, around her son's schedule and her own, with family and friends whose support and honest criticism have kept her moving forward.
Her goal has always been simple: bring people together through something made with care. A plate of decorated cookies at a celebration, a stack of flour tortillas at a family dinner. These are the moments she is making for, and she takes each one seriously.
From a childhood kitchen to a Halifax celebration table
The one customers order again and again
Margot's custom decorated bite-size sugar cookies are what most people come to Margot Bakes for first. Each set is designed specifically for the occasion it is marking: a birthday, a baby shower, a holiday, a milestone someone wants to celebrate in detail. Small enough to be elegant, specific enough to be personal, and made entirely to order.
The process starts with a conversation. A customer describes the occasion, the colours, the theme. Margot designs from there. No two sets are the same because no two occasions are the same. She has been decorating cookies since she first started taking pastry classes in Monterrey in 2019, and the part she loves most has never changed: watching something blank become exactly right for the person it was made for.
People order them as desserts and give them as gifts. They show up at the celebration and then in the photos from it. Customers have used sets as wedding favours, brought them to office parties, told Margot they kept one. A cookie made for a specific moment tends to travel further than expected.

When you order from Margot Bakes, you are ordering from me directly. I am the one who designs the cookies, fills the orders, rolls the tortillas, boxes everything, and gets it to you. There is no team behind the scenes. Every order is mine to get right, and I take that seriously.
I moved to Halifax in 2023 without knowing whether this city would want what I make. I am still building that answer, one customer at a time. Every time someone comes back for a second celebration, tells a friend, or sends me a photo of the cookies at the party, that answer gets a little clearer.
