Terms of Service
Last updated: September 16, 2026
Agreement to these Terms
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of Rooted Tale, including our website at https://www.rootedtale.com/, accounts, story pages, and related features (the “Service”).
By creating an account, clicking to accept, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you are using the Service on behalf of a business, you confirm that you have authority to bind that business. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
Rooted Tale is operated from Nova Scotia, Canada.
The Service
Rooted Tale helps local businesses uncover and share their story. You can create an account, answer guided interview questions, review an AI-assisted draft, add photos, and publish a public story page on our Website.
We may add, change, or remove features. The Service is currently offered free to start; we may introduce paid plans later, with notice before charging you.
Accounts
You must provide accurate information when you sign up and keep your login details confidential. You are responsible for activity on your Account. Notify us promptly if you believe someone else has used it.
You may sign up with email and a password, or with Google. Passwords must meet the requirements shown at sign-up.
We may refuse, suspend, or close an Account if these Terms are violated, if we are required to by law, or if we reasonably believe the Account is being misused.
Your content
What you provide
You retain ownership of the content you submit — including interview answers, recordings, photos, business details, and edits to your story (“Your Content”). You are responsible for that content and for having the rights to use it.
License to Rooted Tale
You grant Rooted Tale a worldwide, non-exclusive license to host, store, reproduce, adapt (including through AI drafting), display, and distribute Your Content as needed to operate the Service. If you publish a story, that license includes showing the published page to the public and featuring it in Explore, marketing, or similar Rooted Tale surfaces.
You can unpublish or request deletion of a story by using the product tools or contacting us. Unpublished content is no longer shown as a public story page, though copies may remain in backups for a limited time.
AI-assisted drafts
Story drafts are generated from the information you provide. They may contain errors or phrasing that does not match how you would tell the story. You are responsible for reviewing, editing, and approving anything before you publish it. Published stories represent your business, not legal, professional, or other advice from Rooted Tale.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for anything unlawful, misleading, or harmful.
- Submit content you do not have the right to use, including photos, names, or trademarks of others without permission.
- Impersonate another person or business, or publish a story about a business you do not represent.
- Upload malware, scrape the Service in an abusive way, or attempt to access accounts or systems that are not yours.
- Interfere with other people’s use of the Service, or use it to send spam.
We may remove or unpublish content, or restrict an Account, if we reasonably believe it violates these Terms or puts others at risk.
Our intellectual property
The Service — including the Rooted Tale name, logos, website design, software, and original copy we create — is owned by Rooted Tale or our licensors. These Terms do not transfer that ownership to you.
You may not copy, reverse engineer, or reuse our branding or platform, except for ordinary use of the Service or with our written permission.
Third-party services
The Service relies on third parties (for example authentication, hosting, analytics, image storage, and AI providers). Those services have their own terms. We are not responsible for third-party websites linked from stories or from our site.
Disclaimers
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available.” We do not guarantee that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that a story will produce any particular business result. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Rooted Tale and its affiliates, officers, and contractors will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service.
Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of CAD $100 or the amount you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the claim. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limits; in those places, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.
Indemnity
You will defend and indemnify Rooted Tale against claims, damages, and reasonable legal fees arising from Your Content or your misuse of the Service, except to the extent caused by our own misconduct.
Changes and termination
We may update these Terms from time to time. The updated version will be posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the new Terms. If a change is material, we will try to give reasonable notice.
You may stop using the Service at any time. Provisions that should reasonably survive (including ownership, licenses already granted for published content until you unpublish it, disclaimers, and liability limits) will survive termination.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Nova Scotia and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Courts in Nova Scotia will have exclusive jurisdiction, except that we may seek injunctive relief in any appropriate forum.
